A building management system (BMS) and an environmental monitoring system (EMS) both measure temperature. That is where the similarity ends.

Why independence matters
If the system that controls conditions is also the system that records them, one failure can affect both. Regulators and auditors therefore generally expect critical monitoring to be independent from control.
When you need both
Most larger sites run both. The BMS controls the building, the EMS proves that critical assets and rooms stayed in range. Selected signals can be shared between them, as long as it is clear which system holds the validated record.
Questions to ask
- Is the system validated for this use?
- Does it have a complete audit trail?
- What happens to monitoring during a power or network failure?
- Who receives the alarm, and does escalation continue until acknowledgement?
How XiltriX Resilience fits
XiltriX Resilience is an Operational Resilience System built on three layers:
- Infrastructure: independent sensors and monitoring stations with battery support, resilient connectivity and local data buffering, so a power or network interruption does not create a gap in the record.
- Intelligence: validated software that turns measurements into alarms, escalation, trends, reports and audit-ready evidence.
- Care: installation, validation, calibration, preventive maintenance and 24/7 technical support for the monitoring system, delivered by one partner that is ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified.
